  • Overton's Star Makers Dance Studio — with 11 members — is traveling to New York to perform in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.  CBS19

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium hosted a TDEA field assessment on November 19 where 11 East Texas dance and drill teams were evaluated using a marching band-style system — a model that has rapidly grown since its start in Katy ISD.   • A local school in Tyler has seen its cursive club become one of the most popular over the past four years—reviving students' interest in handwriting.  CBS19
  • Tyler ISD released the draft calendar for the 2026-27 school year—inviting students, parents, staff and community members to submit feedback at its November board meeting yesterday.   • The Tyler Morning Telegraph hosted the third-annual Best Preps Tyler Fall Photo Shoot on Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Tyler where student athletes had their photos taken, enjoyed food from local sponsors, and learned about the award program; the photos will appear in a souvenir magazine ahead of the award banquet on May 11 at Green Acres Crosswalk Center — coaches based nominations on performance, GPA, and community service while spring nominations remain open until March.  Tyler Morning Telegraph

  • Tyler resident Jimmy Ramsey documented the new Smith County Courthouse reaching its topping-out milestone with over 100,000 photos—his work provides a detailed record of the building’s progress.   • City leaders are exploring a light rail system to ease traffic in downtown and the medical district as Tyler’s population nears 250,000.
