- ➤ Smith County Master Gardeners say that garden mums are perennials that come in many colors and bloom more than once each year. They urged gardeners to care for them by cutting off dead parts—helping the plants bloom again in future seasons. Tyler Morning Telegraph
- ➤ Pansies and violas brighten local gardens in East Texas from October through April—flowers that gardeners plant six inches apart in well-drained, organically enriched soil—to add color during the cooler months. Greg Grant, a Tyler horticulturist with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, advises gardeners to water deeply and use slow-release fertilizer for steady winter blooms. Tyler Morning Telegraph

Grande Blvd., from Nov. 10-16, featuring adoptable pets such as Macy, a 6-year-old Pointer mix; Gracie, a 4-year-old Pit Bull mix; Phaedra, a young tabby/calico; Trevor, a DSH mix; and Shadow, a sleek black cat.
