CULTURE NEWS

  • Tyler Civic Theatre Center is presenting The Miracle Worker today at Braithwaite Theatre with a play that tells the story of Helen Keller and her teacher Anne Sullivan—showing how their bond transformed communication. The production will run for two weeks with evening shows on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m.—and Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m.  Tyler Morning Telegraph

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UT Tyler opened a new health and education building in Longview today, and the facility will let the university expand its healthcare training+programs.  CBS19

  • Texas comptroller today unveiled the TexStats dashboard — it gives users instant access to the latest economic and demographic data.  CBS19
  • Carleen Dark-Bays launched her campaign Tuesday for Tyler City Council District 6 with support from community leaders including Scott Martinez and former councilman Bob Westbrook—she is running to fill the open seat after incumbent Brad Curtis reached his term limit.   • Federal workers in Tyler have been furloughed or are working without pay since the shutdown began at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, and officials say some delays may happen if it continues.
