CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities confirmed that human remains found in a Smith County pond were identified as Courtney Taylor Martin, a Tyler woman who disappeared on May 16—and detectives will continue investigating her suspected foul play.  Tyler Morning Telegraph
  • A witness at a Tyler restaurant said that Eddie Ramirez and Goble had a one on one fight that turned into gunfire—resulting in the murder of a local business owner.  CBS19
  • Lucas Stevenson, wanted on felony warrants, fled after a routine traffic stop in Gregg County on Thursday and led a manhunt as he carjacked a vehicle, stole firearms, and killed a dog before barricading in a Smith County home where he later died from a self-inflicted gunshot.  Tyler Morning Telegraph

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fabiola Caraballo Quijada, a Tyler Legacy High School graduate named best actress at the 2025 Jimmy Awards, will play the title role in the North American tour of the Tony-nominated musical & Juliet and will begin her run in Sacramento on Sept. 23.  CBS19

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in East Texas are below the state average ahead of Labor Day weekend & drivers may save money by filling up locally before traveling.  CBS19

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials and community members gathered this morning—city and county leaders broke ground on a $25.5 million Downtown Improvement Project that will modernize water, sewer, and stormwater systems while creating expanded green space. Leaders including Tyler Mayor Don Warren and Smith County Judge Neal Franklin delivered remarks—then assisted with demolition to launch the three-year project.  Tyler Morning Telegraph
  • Smith County’s budget officer, Kari Perkins, resigned less than two weeks before county commissioners will vote on the fiscal year 2026 budget — her letter gave no reason and will take effect Sept. 1 — as public hearings are set for Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. in downtown Tyler.  Tyler Morning Telegraph
  • The City of Tyler held a groundbreaking for its Downtown Improvement Project and is investing over $25 million in a three-year plan to make downtown more livable and pedestrian-friendly—this project will boost local community spaces in Tyler.  CBS19
