ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Authorities say a rollover crash on Highway 110 in Whitehouse killed one person and injured another on Monday—Jerry Warren, 79, of Troup, died in the head-on collision at the intersection of Highway 110 S. and County Road 2197. Tyler Morning Telegraph
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Scotty Lee Goble of Corsicana faces trial in Tyler for the shooting and murder of Heriberto (Eddie) Ramirez, who was killed in the parking lot of Junior's Taqueria. CBS19
- ➤ Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith said human remains found in a pond near New Harmony on Tuesday likely belong to 35-year-old Courtney Taylor Martin, who disappeared on May 16, 2023 after a backpack was found on July 3 — the remains will be sent to Dallas for forensic tests as investigators continue to review the case. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Early College High School in Tyler was named the top high school in East Texas by U.S. News & World Report—earning a score of 95.14 out of 100 and offering a dual credit program that lets students earn an associate degree while finishing high school. Tyler Morning Telegraph
- ➤ Arp ISD school board approved a $9.9 million bond package to modernize aging campuses, add four new junior high classrooms, and upgrade safety features—voters will decide on the measure on Nov. 4 with early voting from Oct. 20 to 31. Construction for major projects will begin in 2026 and finish by spring, with updates including new safety vestibules and improved doors—efforts that address facilities over 40 years old. - ➤ The city of Tyler has issued new building permits for commercial remodels and large residential constructions from Aug. 7 through 21—covering projects at various addresses with values from $150,000 to $1,400,000.
