ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday evening, a vehicle crashed into Piada Italian Street Food at The Village at Cumberland Park in South Tyler around 5:30 p.m. — photos showed a large portion of the glass and one entry completely destroyed and officials have not yet reported any injuries.  Tyler Morning Telegraph

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tyler ISD students returned to class today and are eager to achieve their academic goals—district officials say the positive start will boost learning for the school year.  CBS19
  • White Oak ISD announced it will hold a $1M bond election to refinance its debt — district officials say the move aims to reduce future financing costs.  CBS19

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Heavy rainfall today flooded Tyler roads—drivers experienced delays as local crews monitored rising water levels and urged caution.  CBS19

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tyler police have increased enforcement in school zones to help keep students safe during school hours—officers say new patrols will target speeding and distracted driving near schools.  CBS19
  • The City of Tyler has proposed a $219.3 million budget for fiscal year 2026 that focuses on investing in core services—such as water improvements, road repairs, and public safety—while lowering the property tax rate to its lowest in nearly a decade. Residents will have an opportunity to review and comment at city council meetings on Aug. 27 and Sept. 10 before final adoption.  Tyler Morning Telegraph
  • NET RMA said a section of Toll 49 from I-20 5 miles south to CR 1150 will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. starting next Wednesday and lasting eight weeks, and drivers are urged to use alternate routes.  Tyler Morning Telegraph
