  • LeRoy Francis, Sr.—a Tyler native who founded Community Funeral Home of Tyler—died after a short illness on Aug. 6. Funeral plans have not been announced as his family and friends prepare to honor his legacy.  CBS19

  • In the trial over a Tyler business owner's death, the prosecution asked the victim's family not to wear clothing related to the victim.  CBS19

CULTURE NEWS

  • Organizers of the Rose City Christmas Parade announced on Friday that Dec. 4's event in Tyler will be held at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium due to downtown construction. The parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. with participants staging along West Houston Street—leading to Fair Park Drive and the stadium parking lot—and organizers are accepting entries now with fees set to increase later.  Tyler Morning Telegraph

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UT Tyler welcomed over 600 educators from across East Texas last Friday for its annual Back-to-School Bash. The sixth-year event—designed to boost morale and share practical teaching strategies—helped educators prepare for the new school year.  Tyler Morning Telegraph
  • School is Cool returned last Thursday night at the W.T. Brookshire Conference Center, giving free backpacks, supplies and services to help kids begin the school year with confidence. The 12th-year event reached over 2,000 children with 75 vendors on site — director Leanne Robinette said it eased the burden on families preparing for school.  Tyler Morning Telegraph
  • Chapel Hill ISD will host two ribbon-cuting ceremonies to open a new junior high today and a multipurpose activity center on Aug. 16 as part of a $113.9 million bond that upgraded academic and safety facilities — marking a major step in the district's growth and commitment to student success.
