  • The KID-preneur business expo will take place this weekend at Pollard Park in Tyler — young entrepreneurs will have opportunities to learn business basics and network with local mentors.  CBS19

  • A Smith County man pleaded guilty to abusing his elderly mother—sentencing will be scheduled soon.  CBS19

CULTURE NEWS

  • 17-year-old Mia Gage (the first queen in her family) will become the 88th queen of the East Texas Yamboree in October at Gilmer during a four-day event that draws about 100,000 visitors. Gage is an incoming senior at Gilmer High School and a power-lifter who plans to be an OB/GYN, and she said the honor means a lot to her and her family.  Tyler Morning Telegraph

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Winona ISD approved a new teacher pay scale for the 2025-26 school year on July 29th—boosting starting salaries to $40,000 and offering raises from $1,750 to $9,380 based on experience. Other local districts like Tyler ISD and Chapel Hill ISD have also implemented teacher pay increases.  Tyler Morning Telegraph
  • Chapel Hill ISD will host a job fair from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at its Central Office on CR 2249 in Tyler—job seekers can apply for roles including bus drivers, custodians, and instructional aides and should bring multiple copies of their résumé, a valid photo ID, and any relevant certifications. HEALTH NEWS

  • East Texas firefighters are using new methods to keep safe from heat-related illnesses as temperatures rise—this includes more water breaks and extra rest time.  CBS19

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The parking garage at the historic Carlton Hotel in downtown Tyler may be partially or fully demolished after a small brick fell from the top floor last week, and area access remains restricted while a licensed engineer evaluates the structure—NORF Companies is consulting with demolition subcontractors to secure National Park Service approvals before work begins.  Tyler Morning Telegraph
