ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • First responders reached the scene of a major crash on I-20 in Smith County on Wednesday afternoon near State Highway 155 that shut down all westbound lanes when an 18-wheeler blocked the road—diverting traffic onto Highway 155 and causing backups to U.S. Highway 271.  Tyler Morning Telegraph

  • Early Wednesday, a person was stabbed to death inside a home in the 4500 block of Lucky Avenue, and Smith County deputies identified a suspect with an arrest expected later that day—investigators continue to work on the case.  Tyler Morning Telegraph

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new drone technology designed to protect students from active shooting incidents is set to be piloted in local schools. Officials say the system will alert security in real time — a step that may soon enhance school safety.  CBS19
  • Advocates pressed Tyler ISD during its Monday night board meeting to provide clear details on how immigration enforcement will impact undocumented students — they claimed repeated requests over five months have been ignored while neighboring districts like Longview and Marshall have already issued supportive statements.  Tyler Morning Telegraph

HEALTH NEWS

  • Amid high temperatures and heat advisories, cooling stations have opened in Tyler and Smith County to help people beat the heat — The Salvation Army runs a station at 633 N. Broadway Ave. that is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon with water available when temperatures reach 95 or above. The City of Tyler has also set up cooling stations at spots like the public library and senior center — residents are encouraged to check on neighbors in need.  Tyler Morning Telegraph

  • The Texas Wounded Warrior Foundation has announced its 18th Annual Tyler Pro-Am Weekend, scheduled for Oct. 4-6, with a casino party at Eagle’s Bluff Country Club on Oct. 5 and a pro-am golf match at Eagle’s Bluff on Oct. 6. The event honors longtime Hall Buick GMC and Hall Chevrolet sponsors and will feature a speaking visit from Sgt.
