- ➤ Local gardeners in Tyler now learn that growing tomatoes in East Texas requires planting in two short seasons—starting seeds in January with transplants set from mid-March through mid-April and again in early May with transplants from mid-July until the first freeze—so they can enjoy a season-long harvest using heat-tolerant varieties.
