Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 3rd of July.
Good morning, Tyler.
Former Tyler Economic Development Council head Tom Mullins urged approval of the Tyler Data Center on West Erwin, a $13M project that will boost local tax revenues and create 7–10 jobs plus internship opportunities while using a closed-loop water system and dedicated power connection — ensuring minimal community impact.
Four East Texas counties voted Tuesday to join a proposed regional groundwater conservation district that will regulate water well pumping to protect local aquifers; lawmakers will decide the district in 2027, giving communities control to set local rules (private wells remain unaffected) to maintain water for homes, farms, and businesses.
Christus Good Shepherd Health System and UT Health urge local families to follow strict fireworks safety rules as Fourth of July festivities approach.
They stress that consumer fireworks are banned within city limits and recommend professional displays with close supervision for children (sparklers can burn severely).
