- ➤ At Tuesday's meeting, Bullard ISD board members received an update from contractor Stephen Berry on the new middle school construction funded by the 2022 bond—crews are finishing exterior details and resolving off-site water issues while the campus is set to open in January, and trustees Brian Hebert and Susie Turner Saxion were sworn in as the board honored retiring Director of Operations Lee Sleeper for 23 years of service. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Smith County Commissioners Court held its first budget workshop on June 10 to review the draft fiscal year 2026 budget that includes requests for 77 new employee positions and 37 new vehicles costing nearly $9.8 million—further workshops are scheduled for June 17 and 24 with public hearings on July 8 and a final budget vote on Sept. 9 before the budget takes effect on Oct. 1.
