  • Animal control in Tyler rescued a zebra that had been loose for a week—officials confirmed the animal is now safely under care and undergoing a health check. Local authorities will continue to monitor the situation to ensure the zebra's well-being.  CBS19
  • Tyler was named the second best place to live in Texas by a national survey — local officials said the honor will boost community projects and local pride.  CBS19
  • SPCA of East Texas is hosting an adoption event from June 9–15 at 3245 W. Grande Blvd in Tyler — offering adoptable pets like Glinda, Cinderella, Ollie, McTwist and Baby Bug who are fully vetted and ready for loving homes.  Tyler Morning Telegraph

  • Tyler will resume its housing voucher program for the first time since COVID to help residents access rental assistance—officials have not yet shared additional details on when the program will restart.  CBS19
  • Smith County Election Administrator Michelle Alcon said Winona ISD held a second election for the trustee seat on June 7 after a tie in May—Luis Hernandez won with 244 votes against incumbent Randy Hawkins’ 181 votes as the district spent $5,948.78. Registered voters increased from 4,580 to 4,616 and turnout improved from 6.81% to 9.21%.  CBS19
  • Juan “Armando” Minniefield (Marshall High 1979 graduate) has been named liaison for Equatorial Guinea's ambassador to strengthen trade, sports, and cultural ties between the nations; he said his work helped secure opportunities for American companies and hopes to bring the ambassador to explore investment in East Texas.  Tyler Morning Telegraph
