  • The East Texas Food Bank launched its free summer food program to support children in Longview by providing 106,000 meals over the summer—meals are available Monday through Friday at 35 sites, and a Tuesday kickoff at Tyler’s Glass Recreation Center brought families together to learn about local support services.  Longview News-Journal
  • Tyler is set to get a new Miracle League field that will offer children a safe place to play baseball—local organizers said the facility will open soon.  CBS19

  • Tyler will host Juneteenth celebrations to honor African American heritage (local organizers plan community events for the day) and will share more details soon.  CBS19

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, Hope Jehorek led her summer art class 'Fairie Fantasies' at the Longview Museum of Fine Arts where 20 students (ages 6 to 10) decorated drawings with pressed flowers and leaves. The museum's art program offers sessions through July 21 to serve various ages with lessons on drawing, painting, pottery and mixed media.  Longview News-Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Rep. Moran said the Big Beautiful Bill will boost economic growth and lower government spending even if it may add $3.8 trillion to the deficit in the next decade. The bill makes 2017 tax cuts permanent, funds military and border security, and goes to the Senate for further review—where lawmakers may make additional cuts.  Tyler Morning Telegraph
  • Texas voters will decide in November on a constitutional amendment to cut property taxes for homeowners and businesses—seniors and disabled residents will get bigger breaks and business owners will see inventory tax cuts. Gov. Greg Abbott said he will sign the deal upon voter approval while lawmakers plan to use $51 billion from budget surpluses and limit local tax hikes after disasters.  Longview News-Journal
