CULTURE NEWS

  • Wade Bowen will headline the 37th annual Tyler Cattle Baron's Ball at Texas Rose Horse Park on June 7, with VIP ticket holders entering at 6 p.m. and general admission beginning at 7 p.m.—the event will offer live music, dancing, and a special on-stage auction to support the American Cancer Society.  Tyler Morning Telegraph
  • The Miss East Texas Juneteenth Pageant will take place on Juneteenth to celebrate women of all ages and honor heritage and freedom. The event will bring together local contestants + showcase diverse talents from the region.  CBS19

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • After a fire in June 2024, Rivers Recycling confirmed it will not rebuild its Kilgore facility because high equipment costs and steel tariffs made the project unsustainable. This decision leaves cities like Tyler, Bullard, and Whitehouse without curbside recycling, and Longview will restart services with NETX processing — a tentative restart is set for June 2.  Tyler Morning Telegraph

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Sen. John Cornyn praised CampV as a gold standard for veterans’ care during his visit on May 28—he urged that its model be used statewide to help fill gaps in rural support while touring the Front Street facility in Tyler where counseling, housing assistance, and peer support are provided to veterans.  Tyler Morning Telegraph
  • On Sunday, the Texas House approved Senate Bill 12 that will ban DEI policies and programs in public schools by restricting hiring decisions and training unless required by federal law, and it mandates written parental consent for club participation. Sponsored by Rep. Jeff Leach and passed with an 88 to 47 vote, the bill will take effect on Sept. 1 — pending Senate agreement on the House amendments.  Tyler Morning Telegraph
  • The City of Tyler approved a contract to convert the old National Guard Armory into a regional police training facility aimed at supporting local law enforcement training needs. Officials said the project will move forward as scheduled.  CBS19
