- ➤ The family of Lindale man Jonathan Layton has filed a wrongful death lawsuit in U.S. District Court against Smith County, Sheriff Larry Smith, Deputy Braylon J. Barnes, FaithCo Plumbing and company executive Taylor Tracy—alleging that the fatal shooting in November 2024 during a workplace dispute was unjustified and calling for the resignation of the sheriff and termination of the deputy and executive. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Texas Senate on Tuesday approved House Bill 4 that would scrap the STAAR test and replace it with a shorter exam given at the start, middle + end of the school year in local schools.
