- ➤ Tyler police are searching for 28-year-old Donte Matlock-Landon, who was last seen on May 9 at 6:30 p.m. at a home in the 700 block of Bennett Ave (he is about 6-foot-3, slim, with short black dreadlocks, brown eyes, and was wearing black/white shorts with a black hoodie). - ➤ Tyler police continue the search for a missing East Texas woman—officials said the investigation remains active with no further details available. CBS19
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Bullard Middle School's opening is delayed from its scheduled August start due to weather delays, utility connection issues, and easement challenges. The school district now plans to move into the new building over the 2025-2026 winter break — with students beginning in January. Tyler Morning Telegraph
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Tyler City Council welcomed new District 3 councilmember Shonda Marsh, a lifelong North Tyler resident with 30 years in healthcare, and approved a $607,200 utility design contract for improvements to Old Henderson Highway. The project will widen the road, add lanes, sidewalks and shared-use paths and move 1,800 feet of water lines plus 3,200 feet of sewer lines—with full design expected by May 2026. - ➤ At its May 13 meeting, the Smith County Commissioners Court approved a pet adoption event, a donation of tax-foreclosed land, and a 2025 audit agreement. The animal shelter will host the pet event on May 31 at 322 E. Ferguson St. (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.), and the donated land will be used for drainage improvements that will return the property to the tax rolls. Tyler Morning Telegraph
- ➤ Texas House members approved House Bill 115 to fix the junk science law that made it hard for convicted people to prove that bad science led to their convictions. The bill will let low-income defendants get lawyers and lower the proof needed—changes that could help wrongfully convicted people if it passes the final vote and takes effect on Dec. 1.
