  • East Texas Giving Day raised a record $3.65 million in 18 hours for over 330 local nonprofits, including major gifts from Texas A&M Texarkana (regional foundations played a key role). The record-breaking event boosted community support today.  CBS19
  • Christus Health celebrated its 10th anniversary in Tyler by donating $10,000 to the East Texas Food Bank on East Texas Giving Day + an anonymous donor matched the gift for a total of $20,000 to support 10 partner pantries.  Tyler Morning Telegraph

  • Tyler Junior College is asking voters for a $167.3 million bond to fund a new workforce building, student center, and safety and IT upgrade that will meet growing local demand; if approved on May 2, homeowners could see about a $7 monthly tax increase (based on an average $252k home).  Tyler Morning Telegraph

  • Tyler Mayor Don Warren held a downtown press conference to discuss the Downtown Improvement Project ($25.6 million, ARPA-backed).   • Smith County leaders updated animal shelter policies after rescue groups raised concerns about short euthanasia notifications. Under the new guideline, dogs receive a 72-hour hold (for evaluation) followed by placement based on adoptability to boost adoptions.  CBS19
