  • East Texas Giving Day runs for 18 hours today, connecting donors with nonprofits across a 32-county region. The online event supports education, health care and community programs until midnight.  CBS19
  • CHRISTUS Health marked its decade in Tyler by donating $10,000 to the East Texas Food Bank & a matching gift doubled the contribution to help provide meals for about 100,000 East Texans.  CBS19

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Tyler Metro Chamber of Commerce hosted the 2026 Image Awards and Gala at the Tyler Rose Garden on Apr. 24 to honor 12 minority-owned businesses and entrepreneurs who boosted the local economy.   • Tyler businesses show new moves — a relocated St. Vincent de Paul thrift store now at West Erwin St and a new Electric Circus Arcade open at Green Acres Shopping Village. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • NETMWD hired Carollo Engineers Inc. to evaluate water available at Lake O’ the Pines under drought scenarios so local cities can plan efficient water use. The study is expected to finish in about six months and will assess both legal and physical water diversion limits.  Tyler Morning Telegraph
  • A regional groundwater plan to cut water use in East Texas is on hold as Anderson, Cherokee (and Henderson) counties are temporarily exempt.  CBS19

  • Smith County leaders approved revised animal shelter policies as rescue groups questioned euthanasia practices (citing concerns over short notice and limited time to save dogs).  CBS19

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local golfer Mark Raiborn was hospitalized in 2023 after a rare infection caused septic shock and led to amputations of both his legs and six fingers — he now continues his journey toward recovery in East Texas.  CBS19
  • Hospital officials and *Gov. Greg Abbott and Sen. Bryan Hughes* dedicated a Safe Haven Baby Box at Christus Mother Frances Hospital on Saturday, Apr. 27 at 800 E. Dawson in Tyler, a secure unit that lets mothers in crisis surrender their newborns safely and anonymously.  Tyler Morning Telegraph
  • Hospital leaders assured Titus Regional employees in good standing that they will keep their jobs after May 1 as the center moves forward with its sale to Christus Health.  CBS19

  • Tyler native Jamarion ‘Jam’ Miller (a former Alabama running back from Tyler Legacy High School) was drafted by the New England Patriots in the NFL Draft on Saturday, Apr. 25. He was picked in the seventh round at No. 245 overall.  CBS19
