COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A vigil was held on Sunday night at 7 p.m. at Darden Harvest Park in Lindale to honor 8-year-old Adrian Thompson, who passed away earlier at Velma Elementary School following a medical emergency. The fundraiser collected over $75,000 from 750 donations to help the family cover medical and funeral bills.  Tyler Morning Telegraph
  • Tyler will host a memorial blood drive tomorrow (April 21) to honor late police officer Sam Lively, who died last year in a motorcycle accident. Residents are invited to support the drive as a way to celebrate his memory.  Tyler Morning Telegraph
  • The Children’s Advocacy Center of Smith County hosts the annual Battle of the Badges Softball Tournament on Saturday, Apr. 25 at Faulkner Park in Tyler — first responders and community teams will compete in friendly games and events to benefit child advocacy services.  Tyler Morning Telegraph
  • SPCA of East Texas is hosting an adoption event featuring dogs and cats, including Yuka, Moose, Hopper, Flower, and Lululemon from today through April 26 at its Tyler location (3245 W. Grande Blvd). Contact the SPCA for adoption details.  Tyler Morning Telegraph

CULTURE NEWS

  • Saturday’s inclement weather moved the second Clay and Coffee event indoors at the Tyler Museum of Art, where visitors sampled handmade ceramics and local coffee from Likewise Coffee; the museum (1300 S. Mahon Ave on the Tyler Junior College campus) said it will host the event again next year.  Tyler Morning Telegraph

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hubbard Middle School continues its campuswide recycling initiative to cut waste and build student leadership. Launched last fall with community support, the program helps students sort recyclables in 55 classrooms and common areas and transports materials to Tyler’s curbside recycling service.  Tyler Morning Telegraph

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On March 24, Tyler PD held its annual award banquet at the W.T. Brookshire Conference Center to honor officers, employees and civilians for their work in 2025. The event presented awards including Certificates of Civic Achievement, Life-saving Awards and Master Awards (Officer of the Year, Detective of the Year, others).  Tyler Morning Telegraph
