CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Karistha Johnson, a Tyler tax preparer, pleaded guilty to a tax refund fraud scheme and was sentenced to federal prison for two years Tuesday — she filed 610 false tax returns that resulted in over $1.2 million in fraudulent refunds. Tyler Morning Telegraph

- ➤ Karin Smith was sworn in as Smith County auditor on Monday morning at the county annex building, with Seventh District Judge Kerry Russell leading the ceremony.
