  • The East Texas Crisis Center hosted a forum on April 1 at the Tyler Public Library to discuss sexual assault awareness, featuring panelists such as the district attorney and police chief—panelists highlighted the need for legal protections and community support for survivors.   • Pivot Nutrition in Quitman is donating half of its sales to help cover expenses for the family of Deputy Melissa Pollard, who died on Wednesday in a crash with a semi between Quitman and Winnsboro (at the intersection of Highway 37 and FM 14).  CBS19

CULTURE NEWS

  • Artemis the red-tailed hawk is thriving at the Caldwell Zoo in Tyler after surviving a car accident ten years ago in East Texas — she is now training to join zoo presentations and is estimated to be 10 to 12 years old, according to lead bird keeper Will Davis.  CBS19

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • East Texans will vote on May 3 for city government positions and school bonds—early voting runs from April 22 to 29 and voters must bring an approved photo ID or file a Reasonable Impediment Declaration.  CBS19
  • The Tyler City Council approved the $1.275 million purchase of a 14.6 acre property at 3150 Robertson Road to build a new fire training facility that will replace the current site on Fair Park Drive. The new facility, located near Tyler ISD’s Career and Technology Center and Atwood’s distribution center, will feature updated equipment to help prepare firefighters for emergencies.  Tyler Morning Telegraph
