- ➤ Brookshire Grocery Co. gave over $230,000 to 36 nonprofits in Tyler from funds raised at its 12th annual FRESH15 Race, which saw 5,000 runners and surpassed its $200,000 goal. The charities received their checks on Tuesday—next year's race is set for March 1, 2026 with over 1,500 runners already signed up. Tyler Morning Telegraph
- ➤ This weekend, East Texas will hold a range of events that offer hands-on activities and local fun for all ages. In Tyler, Touch-A-Truck runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and the Tyler Public Library presents Earth Day Storytime today at 10:30 a.m.—more events include a 5K run, a campus tour at Tyler Junior College, and community festivals in nearby cities. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Corina Bautista was re-arrested — her bond was raised to $1 million on charges of tampering with evidence connected to the July 4 shooting death of 19-year-old Rawly 'Eli' Sanchez after her husband was sentenced to 60 years in prison and her trial is set for May 12. CBS19
- ➤ A judge set a trial date for 67-year-old Tyler man Gregory Bargaineer, who is accused of killing his girlfriend Marilyn Janis McEachin by pouring gasoline on her and setting her house on fire early on Nov. 18, 2024—his trial is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 15 and his next pre-trial hearing is set for June 13. - ➤ Scotty Lee Goble of Corsicana is charged with the murder of Heriberto Eddie Ramirez, a 38-year-old Tyler business owner who was shot in the parking lot of Junior's Taqueria on Oct. 11—his trial has been delayed and is now set for either July 21 or 28 with pre-trial hearings to follow. CBS19
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Tyler ISD has named Sam Gillispie as the new director of athletics—replacing Greg Priest who led the program for a decade before leaving in March to join Rockwall ISD. Gillispie, who has served as assistant athletic director since 2019, will now work with the district's coaches and student-athletes. CBS19
- ➤ Six art educators were honored Tuesday night at Willow Brook Country Club in Tyler during the 14th annual Arts in Education Awards presented by Young Audiences of Northeast Texas, recognizing outstanding contributions from local schools to higher education. The awards included excellence recognitions for teachers from Crockett, Whitehouse, Tenaha, Frankston and a special ICON Award to Dr. Sasha Vukelja (Dr. V) for her impact on the community.
