- ➤ The Women’s Center of East Texas and the East Texas Crisis Center are launching a podcast called Barrier Breakers: Building Communities and Connecting the Dots to raise awareness about domestic violence and sexual assault. They have met twice a month in Kilgore since the end of January + they will invite community guests and talk about new laws to help survivors + the project aims to spark honest conversations in our area. - ➤ The SPCA of East Texas is hosting an adoptable pet event from April 7th to 13th at its Tyler center (3245 W. Grande Blvd.) where five rescued animals, including a Labrador/Shepherd mix, a Chihuahua mix, a Dachshund mix, and two Domestic Shorthair mixes, are waiting for new homes. Each animal has been spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated, with some undergoing further treatment as needed. Tyler Morning Telegraph

- ➤ A Smith County auto shop owner—Seferino Bautista-Renteria—was sentenced to 60 years in prison on Monday after he was convicted of fatally shooting 19-year-old Rawly 'Eli' Sanchez during a U-turn near his shop on Fourth of July last year. Tyler Morning Telegraph

- ➤ At least three tornadoes hit East Texas over the past week, damaging trees, roofs, and a water bottling plant while injuring one person as an EF-1 tornado traveled more than 20 miles across Wood and Upshur Counties—storm surveys will finish later this week to show the full extent of the damage.
