- ➤ Trial continued Thursday morning for Smith County business owner Seferino Bautista-Renteria, who is accused of murder after 19-year-old Rawly Eli Sanchez was shot in the back of the head while making a U-turn behind Bautista Auto Sales on Fourth of July last year—court documents show the incident occurred in the 3700 block of US Highway 271 in Tyler. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A tornado watch was issued Thursday afternoon for multiple counties including Smith in East Texas — valid until 10 p.m. — and severe thunderstorms were expected to bring damaging winds, large hail, and isolated strong tornadoes. Tyler Morning Telegraph

- ➤ Completed HVAC upgrades at Watkins-Logan Texas State Veterans Home in Tyler improved air quality for about 100 residents by installing HEPA filtration and enhanced ventilation in all 10 buildings—Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam managed the project that addressed pandemic air quality concerns while keeping disruptions to a minimum.
