- ➤ Derek Phillips, a Tyler native, was stranded in Puerto Vallarta after Mexican authorities killed a top cartel leader near his hotel, leaving heavy smoke and forcing Grey Bull Rescue (a local nonprofit) to arrange transport for stranded visitors. CBS19

- ➤ On Feb. 12, mourners filled St. James CME Church in Tyler to honor Judge Quincy Beavers Jr., the first African American judge in Smith County who served for 27 years.
