CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Tyler police arrested Samatraus Forge, 39, on Monday after an undercover informant linked him to a crack cocaine ring selling drugs near local schools and daycares over a one-year period—he faces charges for manufacturing and delivering controlled substances and engaging in organized crime while he remains jailed on a $1.15 million bond. - ➤ Smith County Sheriff’s Office reported a sharp rise in ATV, side-by-side and utility task vehicle thefts from locked carports and secluded properties early Friday, August 15—with 10 vehicles stolen and only two recovered as police urge residents to secure their machines with GPS tracking and quality locks. - ➤ Chapel Hill Junior High School opened its new campus on Thursday—the project funded by a 2023 voter-approved bond—at 3000 East Fifth Street in Tyler. - ➤ Students and staff returned to campus on Wednesday morning to start the new school year at Grace Community School, a faith-based institution serving nearly 1,500 students across seven campuses. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents in Pittsburg spoke out against Canton’s plan to build a 5,000-acre reservoir, arguing that using eminent domain would harm private property — they said the city’s water needs are already met.
